Get Your Login Username and Password

Every employee gets a unique set of Login credentials to access WVU systems. Because many people use a name other than their legal name, all active faculty, staff and students may select a Chosen Name for use in the WVU systems that are technically capable of accepting them. That process begins with the Manage Account button at login.wvu.edu.

Set Up Duo Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication is an extra layer of account security, besides your username and password. You’ll be prompted to set up Duo the first time you log into most WVU systems. Download the free Duo Mobile app on your phone and follow the setup instructions on a computer.

After setting up Duo, we recommend generating backup codes at login.wvu.edu in case you lose, forget or need to replace your phone or Duo token. You can generate 10 single-use codes. Store them in your wallet or another secure location and cross them out as you use them. Generating a new list will invalidate any previous, unused codes.

Download Free and Discounted Software

You can download FREE Microsoft Office on up to five personal devices and Sophos anti-virus protection on up to three. Your work computer will already be equipped with this software. Faculty and staff also have free access to Adobe Creative Cloud software, but you must submit a request so it can be assigned to you. Employees have access to other reduced-cost software, so visit the Software Licensing Center before buying anywhere else.

All About Your Mountaineer ID Card

To get a Mountaineer ID Card, visit idphoto.wvu.edu and submit a picture that meets WVU’s requirements. Review the process and pickup locations, and learn about the pre-paid debit card function called Mountie Bounty.

Connect to Campus Wi-Fi and Email

Select the WVU.Encrypted wireless network and enter your Login username and password to connect your mobile devices and computer to the internet on the Morgantown, Keyser and Beckley campuses. If colleagues are visiting from participating institutions, they can use the eduroam service or WVU.Guest.

Office 365 and Outlook email are available to all employees. Teaching faculty also get access to Google Workspace, including MIX (Gmail) and 5TB of Google Drive storage.

Collaboration Tools

  • Microsoft Teams is a chat-centered workspace where groups and individuals can quickly communicate by Chat, meet with video, and share files via built-in SharePoint. WVU employees can access Teams online through an Office 365 account or by installing the Teams desktop application. You can also download the Teams mobile app from your favorite app store.   • Zoom lets you host online meetings, share your screen, facilitate group discussions and chats, and record and share meetings. All WVU students, faculty and staff can set up an account at wvu.zoom.us and visit the IT Help Center for more tips.
  • Researchers and HSC faculty and staff who need access to a HIPAA-compliant version of Zoom should use Mountaineer Doctor Television (MDTV). This instance of Zoom can be used for clinical practice, exams, and administrative meetings. Read this MDTV’s article to learn about the Zoom account prerequisites and how to request access.
  • Faculty and instructors can also use the Collaborate Ultra videoconferencing tool in eCampus for collaborating with students in their courses.
  • All WVU employees who need to securely send, receive and share files containing Sensitive Data should use LiquidFiles at liquidfiles.wvu.edu.

Surveys and Forms

All WVU employees have free access to Qualtrics, a powerful, industry-leading software for conducting surveys and creating forms. New to Qualtrics? Review this FAQ, which includes a flow chart to illustrate the many use-case scenarios, along with these resources for getting started.

There is also a HIPAA-compliant option for researchers, faculty and staff collecting Sensitive Data. This instance of Qualtrics is more secure but less flexible. Access to HSC Qualtrics is granted on a case-by-case basis.

Get Technology Support

Typically, the first point of contact is the WVU ITS Service Desk at 304-293-4444 or the IT Help Center, where you can search for answers to your questions or submit a ticket.

However, researchers who use either an @hsc.wvu.edu or a @wvumedicine.org email account to access technology services should start with the HSC Help Desk at 304-293-3631, option 1, or submit a ticket online.

Most colleges and some administrative units also have their own IT support teams.

If you receive a suspicious email, don’t click on any links! It could be a phishing scam. Forward it as an attachment to DefendYourData@mail.wvu.edu so the experts can investigate.

You can also easily report computer security and privacy incidents at DefendYourData.wvu.edu. WVU Login credentials are required.

Overview of Academic Tools for Faculty

Faculty have access to a wide array of tools and resources to be successful, with services provided by ITS, Libraries, college and department IT staff, Research Computing, Teaching and Learning Commons, the Provost’s Office and more. Here are some of those most frequently used.

  • eCampus is WVU’s main learning management system, used to support online and lecture-based classes. eCampus is supported by WVU ITS and contains many third-party, vendor-supported building blocks such as Turnitin, Respondus Lockdown Browser and more.
  • SOLE (Study Observe Learn and Engage) is the Health Sciences Center portal and learning management system, used not only for student instruction but also for training, certifications, continuing education and more.
  • iClicker Cloud is an audience response tool that makes it easy to increase participation, facilitate quizzes, measure performance and get more out of your classroom. Student responses are instantly recorded and grades can be synced with eCampus.
  • Digital Measures is used to record professional accomplishments and activities, and track tenure eligibility. Each college has its own point of contact.
  • WVU Kuali Coeus (WVU+kc) is the research administration system used to submit sponsored research proposals and receive award notices.
  • Banner is used for advising students, updating grades and reviewing applications. STAR SSB (Self-Service Banner) is where students can view financial aid, pay tuition, register for classes and view class schedules. It's also where faculty can view class rosters, email students and enter grades.
  • Navigate is the scheduling, advising and tutoring tool that integrates with Banner and gives advisors and instructors information that may help students stay in school, succeed and graduate.
  • Degree Works gives students and advisors a visual checklist of courses and objectives required for graduation, including major requirements, major electives, capstone and General Education Foundations (GEF) requirements.
  • Student Feedback Instrument (SFI) is used by colleges and schools to measure student satisfaction and solicit feedback about the quality of instruction. WVU uses a product called Blue, which creates electronic reports that are used as part of the promotion and tenure process.
